Instructions

Preparation
  1. Grab a big skillet and set it over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook it until it is no longer pink, breaking it up into small crumbles.
  2. If there is a lot of grease, spoon some off, but leave a little behind for flavor.
  3. Add onion and bell pepper. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until they soften. Stir in garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, and vinegar. Stir until meat is coated and sauce looks smooth.
  5. Turn the heat down and let it simmer for 8 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust consistency by adding water if too thick or simmering longer if too loose.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or tanginess to preference.
  7. Toast your buns if desired, then pile on the meat and serve.

Notes

For an oily filling, add a spoonful of tomato paste and simmer longer. Leftovers can be stored for 3-4 days in the fridge or frozen for 2-3 months. Best served with napkins!
